Our Community Cares held its inaugural tennis tournament, Rally For a Cause fundraiser, on Friday, June 13th at the Wellington tennis center. The event was co-chaired by Laura Maher and Marge Sullivan. Fifty-two players of all ages came out for the doubles tournament.
There were four flights in the women’s division. Winners included Serena Flight Robyn Sherman and Lauren Schneider, Steffi Flight Dalinda Barry and Kris Krigbaum, Coco Flight Ria Katragadda and Sandy Perez, and Chrissie Flight Avril Mills and Tina Nergaard. The men’s division had two flights. Winners included Rafa Flight Scott Lee and Armando Perea, and Roger Flight Thad Millsap and Rick Sherman.
The event was made possible by many volunteers, the events committee, and partnerships from Village of Wellington, Palm Health Foundation, Sansone Air Conditioning and Plumbing, Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Laura Maher, and Chicken Salad Chick.
Our Community Cares held its inaugural wine tasting and friend raiser at the private home of Bonnie Sansone. The event began with a welcome from board chair, Cheryl Anders, and a brief history of the organization. Diane Gutman, Director of Operations, spoke about the organization’s accomplishments in 2024.
Guests then heard from participant, Paul Razza, who receives services regularly from the organization, and Shelley Swartz, a volunteer and board member spoke about the sense of purpose and social interaction she receives serving in those roles, after retiring from a rewarding career in education.
Immediately following, guests gathered around to learn some basic facts from local sommelier Paul Seal about wine production, wine selection and the best ways to serve wines to houseguests. Attendees were then invited to a fantasy wine journey through northern Italy sampling five wines from that region given by Jeffrey Rodman, a regional manager at RC Wine Company in Palm Beach and a graduate of the Florida Wine Academy and the Napa Valley Wine Academy.
A highlight of the evening was a mystery wine raffle. The evening was graciously underwritten by Sansone Air Conditioning and Plumbing and Dr. Ernest Biczak and his wife, Cathy Biczak, who is also a member of the Fund Development Committee.
