The work done by Our Community Cares is only possible because of our volunteers. The generous donations of time made by our volunteers have made it possible for many seniors to continue living independently at home as they age. According to a survey by the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), the vast majority of seniors prefer to stay in their homes as they age.
Research also shows that aging in place helps seniors maintain their sense of identity because they are in a familiar environment. Additionally, positive connections with their social networks and neighborhood interactions decrease feelings of loneliness. You can read about some of the benefits of aging in place here.
Our volunteers make that possible by doing things like transporting participants to medical appointments and social events, helping around the house, and simply dropping in to spend time our local seniors, to name a few. They also provide support during fundraising events.

Diane Gutman is the Director of Operations for Our Community Cares. All potential volunteers meet with her to discuss the different options for volunteering, the time commitment, and ensure everyone will be happy with the arrangement.

All volunteers must undergo a background check and fingerprinting. Volunteers work very closely with our participants and we have to ensure everyone's safety.

After a successful background check, volunteers will being receiving notifications about opportunities to volunteer based on participant service requests.
